The Le Mortelle 2016 Maremma Toscana Poggio alle Nane is Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon with some Carmenère in a supporting role. Like the other new releases from this estate, this wine is redolent of hot-climate aromas of black fruit, cherry liqueur, liquid smoke and roasted spice. The wine's appearance is midnight black, and the mouthfeel is characterized by thickness, softness and pleasurable succulence. A wine like this wraps thickly over the palate and holds tight thereafter.

Black cherry and plum fruit combines with loamy earth, iron and tobacco flavors in this broad, opulent red. Dusty tannins seep in as it winds down on the finish, staying fresh and focused.
