More forward and evolved, but still not ready for prime time drinking, the inky/purple-colored 2009 Cote Rotie Cote Rozier exhibits abundant cassis and black raspberry notes intermixed with hints of lard, licorice, smoke and graphite. Rich, full-bodied and powerful with supple tannins and a long finish, it requires 2-3 years of cellaring and should drink well over the following two decades. Bonnefond’s four cuvees of Cote Rotie are exceptional in 2010 and brilliant in 2009, although they are made in contrasting styles. The 2010s are minerally, with higher acids, but no shortage of ripeness or flavor intensity. The 2009s represent full blast hedonism at its finest.
