The 2008 Isola dei Nuraghi Iselis Rosso is another gem of a wine from Argiolas. Mint, flowers and cinnamon emerge on the exquisite bouquet, leading to expressive dark fruit. Tar, smoke and licorice add a final blast of flavor on the long, pure finish. The Iselis Rosso is predominantly Monica with a dollop of Carignano and Bovale Sardo, all varieties native to Sardinia. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2014.
Argiolas is a great starting point for readers who want to discover the breadth of Sardinian wine. From top to bottom this is an impressive line-up that showcases the unique voices of the island’s indigenous grapes. Even better, most of the wines remain exceptional values.
