Bargain hunters should always check out Clape’s declassified Syrah called Vin des Amis. This non-vintage wine (all from 2006) exhibits a dark blue/purple color along with deep fruit. It does not possess the complexity of Clape’s top Cornas offerings, but it reveals more than a casual similarity to those wines. Both of these reds should be drunk in their exuberant youth, 1-3 years after the vintage. Importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, CA; tel. (510) 524-1524
