Produced from 70 year old vines, the medium-to-dark ruby colored Pommard Vieilles Vignes is one of the finest village wines I have tasted. It reveals explosive and intense aromas of cherries and blackberries as well as a lively, thick, full-bodied character stacked with highly extracted black cherries and blueberries. A fabulously long finish ends on copious quantities of soft tannin and touches of new oak. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2006. As always, ratings with a score in parentheses indicate the wine was tasted from cask, not bottle.
