The 2006 Valtuille Cepas Centenarias spent 16 months in 100% new French oak. It has that extra dimension aromatically imparted by the old vines. Sexy, kinky aromas of black raspberry, cherry, spice box, and incense leap from the glass. Not quite as impressive on the palate but first class nevertheless, the wine is dense, ripe, sweet, and very lengthy. It will continue to unfold for another 4-6 years. Lavish oak layers toast, sandalwood and espresso flavors in this rich red, but don't overshadow ripe strawberry and blackberry fruit or accents of spice, mineral and lilac.
