The 2005 Aragone naturally displays greater depth and richness than the Morellino. It offers outstanding length and notable poise in its expression of sweet black cherries, wild herbs and earthiness. Though full-bodied and expansive on the palate, the 2005 doesn’t quite have the clarity or precision of the gorgeous 2004, but that is simply a factor of the weaker vintage. Aragone is 85% Sangiovese, with smaller portions of Alicante, Syrah, Ciliegiolo and Colorino. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2017.
I continue to be impressed with the wines of La Mozza, the Maremma property of New York restaurateurs Joe Bastianich, Lidia Bastianich and Mario Batali.
