Caggiano’s 2005 Taurasi Vigna Macchia dei Goti is an intense, linear wine imbued with persistent notes of iron, tar, smoke and earthiness that emerge from its structured frame. Deceptively medium in body, the wine gains considerable volume as layers of flavor continue to develop in the glass. Today the wine is quite inward but there is wonderful complexity here that simply needs bottle age to emerge. This is a terrific effort from Caggiano. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2025.
