Probably the finest Sansonnet I have ever tasted, this vineyard, which is planted in sandy, clay, and limestone soils, has produced a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Sansonnet has been a relatively insipid wine in the past, but that’s not the case in 2008. Sweet red and black currants intermixed with loamy soil, licorice, and spice box aromas jump from the glass of this dark ruby/purple-tinged effort. Medium to full-bodied with pure fruit, an impressive texture, and a seductive personality, it should drink beautifully when bottled, and will keep for 10-15 years.
