Alario’s 2004 Barolo Sorano (from a vineyard in Serralunga) is made in a similarly opulent style, with super-ripe, jammy blueberries, blackberries, cassis, mocha and sweet toasted oak notes that flow from the glass. The wine’s lushness is beautifully balanced by the firmer tannins that are the hallmark of Barolo from this part of the zone. The vines here have only been recently planted so it will be interesting to see how this wine develops in future vintages. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2016.
