Bouchard's 1959 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières is drinking beautifully, wafting from the glass with a lavish bouquet of cherry compote, ripe strawberries, warm spices and smoked tea. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, it's supple and gourmand, with a long and expansive finish. Opulent and textural, emphasizing pristinely preserved fruit over complexity, this bottle was in fine condition and I'm looking forward to the magnum I purchased from the same cellar.
