Isenhower’s Cabernet Sauvignon Bachelor’s Button – sourced from Bacchus and Dionysus Vineyards; tinged with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot; and in his words “picked October 10 in frenzy after a three-night freeze” – is appetizingly loaded with ripe blueberry and cassis tinged by cedar and vanilla. Pure, polished, and well-balanced, my only reservations about it are its relatively simple fruitiness and a bit of warmth to its otherwise satisfyingly juicy and persistent finish. It should hold up well for at least the better part of half a dozen years.
Midwesterners Brett and Denise Isenhower opened their Walla Walla winery just over a dozen years ago, and following early and widespread recognition, they planted their first estate vines in 2008 with designs on eventually growing about half of their fruit. Their diverse offerings typically run to 2,000-4,000 bottles each.
