The 2009 Barbera d’Alba Superiore Campolive is better than the Serra, but it, too, shows elements of rusticity I don’t usually associate with this bottling. In its best vintages, Campolive is one of Piedmont’s top Barberas, but the 2009 falls a bit short of its historical level, which is a shame considering the year was so favorable to the variety. The fruit really struggles to emerge here. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. Importer: Petit Pois, Moorestown, NJ; tel. (856) 608-9644 and Behind The Cellar Door Imports, Bloomfield Hills, MI; tel.
