The softest and most approachable of the Barbarescos, the medium-bodied 2001 Barbaresco Mondino is floral on the nose and offers flavors of bright, sweet red cherry and strawberry fruit, minerals and menthol. With some air this is enjoyable today. The Mondino bottling is made from younger vines and going forward it will become the house’s normale, rather than carrying a vineyard designation. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2013.
