This report begins with the purple-colored 2005 Crianza, a 100% Tempranillo cuvee, sourced from vines ranging in age from 25-80 years and aged in new French oak for 18 months. It offers an already complex bouquet of spice box, wood smoke, vanilla, black cherry, and blackberry that jumps from the glass. Dense, richly fruited, and well balanced, this lengthy effort will continue to unfold with several more years of bottle age and drink well from 2012 to 2020. Jesus Sastre is winemaker and vineyard manager of Vina Sastre, one of Ribera del Duero's finest estates. The vineyard is organically farmed with biodynamic principles. The 2007 Roble was reviewed in Issue 181.Importer: Andre Tamers, De Maison Selections, Chapel Hill, NC; www.demaisonselections.com
