Even better than the 2000, the 2001 Gloria de Ostatu (95% Tempranillo from 60-70 year old vines and 5% Graciano) was aged 18 months in new French oak, and bottled unfiltered. This fabulous effort offers a saturated ruby/purple color as well as gorgeous aromas of cigar tobacco, smoke, black currants, blackberries, and cedar. Deep, full-bodied, and opulent, with a voluptuous mid-section, great intensity, and fine purity, this is a superb offering. Sadly, only 500 cases were produced. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.
This is clearly a winery of which to take note, and the influence of the brilliant Hubert de Bouard can not be discounted.
