Raquillet's 2008 Mercurey Vieilles Vignes - which was bottled already in November, 2009 - smells of bloody beef, red currant, coriander, and diverse green herbs, and comes to the palate with the clean carnality, tartness, and pungency intimated on the nose. Yet for all of its brightness this manages to offer a certain sense of plushness, with its fine tannins well-integrated. Modest in length, it is apt to be best enjoyed over the next 2-3 years.
