Delivering aromas of ripe cherries, licorice, loamy soil and toasty oak, the 2020 Mercurey 1er Cru Les Vasées is medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with powdery tannins to frame its generous core of fruit. It's a broad, demonstrative wine that will offer a broad drinking window.

Notes of sweet berry fruit and ripe plums mingle with notions of dark chocolate, licorice, spices and orange rind, introducing the 2019 Mercurey 1er Cru Les Vasées, a medium to full-bodied, bright and lively wine that's more reserved than its communal-level counterparts out of the gates.

The 2018 Mercurey 1er Cru Les Vasées is quite reserved after its recent bottling, offering up aromas of cassis, wild plums and spicy new oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, bright and lively palate that's very nicely balanced but also a little introverted right now. It will reward two or three years in the cellar.

The 2017 Mercurey 1er Cru Les Vasées unfurls in the glass with aromas of smoky blackberries, cassis, grilled game bird and espresso roast. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and nicely concentrated, its fine but chalky tannins largely cloaked in fleshy fruit.

Notes of dark berries, wood smoke, ripe cherry, dark chocolate and coniferous forest floor introduce the 2016 Mercurey 1er Cru Les Vasées, an ample, medium to full-bodied wine with a generous core of fruit framed by taut, chewy tannins. It has tightened up post-bottling, so cellar it for a few years before pulling corks.
