The 2002 vintage did not give Tenuta Rocca the grapes it needed for its Barbera selection or for its Barbera-Nebbiolo blend, but the 2000 Barolo of the house is a real success with its powerful, well-spiced nose of wild cherries, chocolate, and tar, structured flavors of real volume and weight, and a solid finish of ripe red fruit and licorice. The tannins need a bit of time, and the wine can best be drunk between 2006 and 2018.
