The 2015 Barolo Baudana (with 6,000 bottles made) is emboldened by oak-driven tones of spice, tar, resin and cured tobacco. The oak element is a bit too strong for my tastes, and it tends to mask some of that dark fruit signature that is so specific to Serralunga d'Alba. Sweet spice and blackberry wrap over the palate. Some of that spice will integrate with time, but the oak tannins remain dry and slightly astringent at the moment. The vines, from a massal selection, are 40 years old.
