Daniel Servelle irrefutably made better 1991s than 1990s. Low yields and the fact that the wines are now going into the bottle unfiltered have made a difference. These are wines of unmistakable charm and elegance, yet they are imbued with plenty of rich, sweet fruit.
The 1991 Chambolle-Musigny-Les Amoureuses is a textbook example of how rich, intense, and flavorful Pinot Noir can be in what is a light, elegant style. The wine displays a velvety textured, sweet, classic nose of red and black fruits, flowers, and herbs, medium body, and a finish that is all glycerin, smooth tannins, and moderate alcohol. Drink it over the next decade.
Servelle's immensely impressive 1991s are the best wines I have tasted from this up and coming domaine.
