Biale, one of the top two or three reference point wineries for high quality California Zinfandel, will no doubt strengthen its fan base with the following bevy of full throttle, powerful Zinfandels. All of these wines possess 15.7% to 16.7% alcohol, and my highest score was awarded to the one with the lowest alcohol, the 2004 Zinfandel Aldo’s (15.7%). From a vineyard planted in 1937, this 325-case cuvee boasts notes of creme de cassis, cherry liqueur, licorice, smoke, herbs, and spice. With an opulent texture, wonderful purity, glycerin, and fruit, this powerful 2004 should drink well for a decade.
