The 1998 "Maleea" Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon is worth its high entry price. There are 500 cases of this blend of 55% Cabernet and 45% Shiraz, aged in 100% new French wood. Opaque purple in color, with a spectacularly intense as well as pure nose of melted licorice, cassis, and blackberry, this full-bodied wine is extremely well-delineated, has fabulous symmetry and overall harmony, seamless integration of acidity, tannin, and alcohol, and a 35-40 second finish. The wine is still youthful, but promises to evolve nicely for at least 15 or more years.
