Deep garnet colored, the 2000 The Malleea gives expressive notes of blackberry and cherry preserves with an underlying earthy / meatiness and hints of smoked bacon, tea and tobacco. Taut, crisp and with a firm level of finely grained tannins, it has a good concentration of mature fruit in the mouth and a long finish. Drink this one now to 2019+.
Catching-up with owner Brian Lynn recently, in addition to his current releases I tasted through verticals of Majella’s Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and The Malleea to track the evolution of the styles. The results go to show, it certainly pays to put a few bottles of these well constructed wines away.
Majella does not currently have a US importer.
