For the last couple of years, I’ve been extolling Ambroise’s offering from Beaune Perrieres (red), and the 2003 may be the best yet. Its waxy black cherry-scented nose leads to a lively, dense personality of syrupy red as well as black cherries. Medium-bodied, well-balanced and deep, it has admirable concentration as well as freshness. Its tannin is present, yet ripe (rarely the case with Beaunes from 2003) and its finish builds on additional layers of cherries. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
