The 2008 Arrocal Seleccion is from 40-year-old vines and matured for 15 months in mostly French oak. It has a tightly wound bouquet that demands coaxing, although it offers impressive focus and delineation, with lifted red berry aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sensual tannins belying good structure and backbone, with fine tension toward the concentrated finish. This is a very well-crafted Ribera del Duero. Drink 2013-2020. Bodegas Arrocal was founded in 1999 when Rosa and Moises Arrocal took over the family’s vineyard and expanded their holdings, constructing a gravity-fed winery in 2003. Their wines are matured mostly in French oak, approximately 80%, the remainder in American.
