In the same ballpark, the 2011 Syrah Melville offers loads of spice, white pepper and herbs to go with more olive, game and darker berry fruit. There’s a touch of green here, but it’s reasonably well managed, and it has medium-bodied richness and good texture. I wouldn’t push this and would enjoy bottles over the coming 3-4 years.
This is another impressive lineup by Chad Melville. His 2011s show the difficulty of the vintage, yet still deliver loads of character and are beautifully made. His 2012 Pinot Noirs, which Chad characterized as a perfect growing season, are loaded with potential and should not be missed!
