No Rayas was produced in this vintage, and thus Fonsalette was presumed to contain all the Rayas juice. I do not have any tasting notes on a 1982 Cuvee Syrah, but the Cotes du Rhone has always been a noteworthy success. The wine is more rustic than normal, with a dark, opaque garnet color, a vivid, savage nose of garrigue (Provencal herbs, pepper, earth, and black fruits). Full-bodied, tannic, and powerful, with considerable structure, this is a hefty, full-throttle wine that will last for another 5-7 years. Look elsewhere for finesse and elegance, as this is a mouthfilling wine of power and extract.Imported by Martine's Wines, San Rafael, CA; tel.
