One would not expect a winery such as this to take the time to figure out the most fickle of all red wine varietals, Pinot Noir. However, d'Arenberg's 2001 Feral Fox Pinot Noir (12 different clones) is a surprisingly fine effort. Its medium ruby color is followed by sweet aromas of cherries, plums, and cranberries, excellent texture, a good underlying forest floor element, expansive sweetness, and a medium-bodied finish. Drink this attractive, well-made Pinot over the next 5-6 years. Importer: Rob McDonald, Old Bridge Cellars, Napa, CA; tel. (707) 258-9552
