The 2015 Riesling La Borne Alte Reben is precise and fresh with aromas of chalk, mint and thyme on the deep and intense nose. This is a noble wine and real grand cru. Ripe and concentrated, but still precise and elegant on the nose, this has very ripe and almost dried apple aromas; there are also some herbal and smoked speck flavors. This is a full-bodied and powerful, very expressive and persistent Riesling, with lots of energy and a silky texture. Lots of salt, grip and vitality here, almost racy. Very firm and tightly woven, with a great potential to age. Incredibly tight and salty. This is an extremely mineral wine and perhaps, one day, Wittmann's 2015 icon Riesling trocken. The wine comes from a coolish plot in the higher Morstein Grand Cru named La Borne in the old times. This should be a GG, but Wittmann cannot name it after the official plot name (Oberes Brunnenh?uschen), because Brunnenh?uschen is another single vineyard that is several hundred meters away.
