The two newest vintages from the tiny 7.4-acre vineyard on the terraces of Gigondas include a strong 1996. It is a soft, seductive, open-knit wine that does not try to make more of the vintage than is possible. It possesses an evolved medium plum color, a sweet, floral, black cherry, and peppery-scented nose, good acidity, a seductive, plush mouthfeel, and a medium-bodied, heady finish. It is a wine to drink over the next 4-5 years. For some reason, the Bernard family, which also owns the best restaurant in Gigondas, Les Florets (which I highly recommend), rarely want to include their wines in comparative tastings, but every time I have had one, I have marked it extremely well.No known American importer.
