The 1996 Golden Semillon is a sweet dessert wine meant to compete with France's Barsac/Sauternes wines. It boasts a knock-out nose of melted butter, tangerines, and orange liqueur. Exceptional acidity (much of it undoubtedly added) gives the wine orange marmalade-like flavors, yet the texture is nearly unctuous. There is outstanding purity, and sweet, thick, juicy fruit. I suspect a good creme brulee would work wonders with this dessert wine. It should last for 15 or more years.Importer: Australian Premium Wine Collection (John Larchet), USA Wine West, San Rafael, CAphone: (800)-485-5753, and Chicago Brands, Chicago, IL; tel.
