Fonterutoli is a reliable source of high class Tuscan wine. I have inconsistent tasting notes on Fonterutoli's 1988 Chianti Ser Lapo. At its best, it is a wine with an impressively saturated dark ruby/purple color, a big, forceful nose of grilled herbs, roasted fruit, vanillin, and earthy/leathery notes. The wine is rich and medium to full-bodied, with moderate tannin. The style of the 1988 vintage (less opulent fruit and more structured wines) is in complete contrast to the fleshy richness of the 1990 vintage. Importer: Empson USA, Alexandria, VA.
