This estate has exquisite potential, but the wines often turn out slightly light. They are made in a forward, fragrant, medium-weight style that I feel compromises their full potential. Nevertheless, for drinking within 8-10 years of the vintage, they are very appealing. All three of the 1988s possess the classic Nebbiolo nose of roses, cherries, and tar. All exhibit light to moderate tannins, moderate concentration, and soft, supple finishes. The most expansive and richest on the palate is the Martinenga-Gaiun; the lightest and shortest is the Martinenga. Importer: Paterno Imports, Chicago, IL.
