The 2008 Roquers de Porrera is a worthy successor to vintages previously reviewed in this journal. It is a blend of 80% Garnacha and Carignan with the balance Merlot and Syrah aged in 50% new French oak for 16 months. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it is presently a bit reticent aromatically but with coaxing reveals aromas of mineral, Asian spices, licorice, chocolate, and black cherry. Medium to full-bodied, smooth textured, intense, and focused, this savory, well-balanced, lengthy offering will be at its best from 2013 to 2023.
