The 1999 Korem, a blend of Syrah, Merlot, Carignan, Cannonau, and Bovale Sardo (the latter two are indigenous to Sardinia), is a full-bodied, rich, spicy, layered effort that impacts the palate with high levels of tannin. There are noticeable wood and earth notes in the long finish. It is ambitious, dense, and chewy, but whether it ever develops the charm found in Argiolas's less expensive wines remains to be seen.
