The 2007 Orvieto Poggio Calvelli is pretty and refined in its layers of honeyed fruit. The wine possesses lovely balance and a long finish. Best of all, it is a terrific value. The Poggio Calvelli is 50% Grechetto, 25% Chardonnay, and 25% Procanico. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2011.
Oenologist and co-owner Riccardo Cotarella makes tasty wines at La Carraia in Umbria. Most of the production is centered around Orvieto, but a few hectares are planted with red varieties as well.
