Tasted blind at the Burgfest annual tasting, the 2014 Chablis 1er Cru Montmains from Jean Paul Droin has a clean, honeydew melon and grapefruit-tinged bouquet that lacks the complexity of its peers, exhibiting less slate-like aromas than I discerned last year when I tasted the same wine at the domaine. The palate is fresh on the entry with crisp acidity, sour lemon and a pleasant saline finish. I would have just liked more length here, but I think with decanting it would have gained more volume. You can feel the concentration here but it is too young and feels coiled up at present.
