Possessing the classic seriousness and structured character that's the defining characteristic of the vintage, the 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape la Crau de Ma Mere offers lots of scorched earth, leather, crushed rock and garrigue to go with outstanding purity, a concentrated mid-palate and a youthful, focused, yet beautifully pure personality. It should hit prime time in another handful of years and keep through 2025.

The 2005 La Crau de Ma Mere Blanc is a tasty, fresh white wine showing somewhat New World-like tropical fruit aromas and flavors in a medium-bodied, oak-free, crisp style.As I have written in the past, all three cuvees from Pere Pape are Provencal in their typicity. In short, they are up-front and delicious, with forward fruit and plenty of character/personality. I don’t think they will make old bones by any means, as they are clearly designed for immediate consumption, or aging for up to a decade in the case of their top cuvee, Le Crau de Ma Mere.
