The black/purple-colored 1999 Rasteau Cuvee Confiance (80% Grenache with the balance Syrah and Mourvedre, all from 50-year old vines, aged in both tank and small barrels) is terrific. Although it tips the scales at 14.5% alcohol, it is well-hidden. This 18,000 bottle cuvee possesses a fabulously sweet perfume of blackberries, cassis, minerals, hot stones, and a touch of cocoa. With thick, full-bodied, tannic flavors, this is a big wine, even by New World standards. The finish lasts for 35-40 seconds. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2015.
