The 2007 Montefalco Rosso is simply beautiful in this vintage. Silky, ripe tannins frame an expressive core of red berries, flowers and tobacco. The wine reveals gorgeous length and a refined, understated finish. Readers who enjoy more tertiary nuance may want to cellar this for a few years. In my experience Caprai’s Montefalco Rosso peaks between ages eight to ten. Still, it is impossible not to admire the wine today. This is a terrific effort from Marco Caprai. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2017.
Marco Caprai has long led the way in Montefalco. These 2006s are Caprai’s best wines yet and capture all of the promise they showed when I tasted them from barrel a year ago. Simply put, readers will not want to miss these fabulous wines.
