Vosne's answer to Nuits, this wine is medium-to-dark ruby-colored and possesses a blackberry, smoke, and toasty oak-laden nose. This foursquare, austere, and tannic wine is full-bodied, backward, chewy-textured, and densely-packed with metallic, minerally, briary, gamey, and cassis-like flavors. Additionally, this wine has a long, firm, and tannin-strewn, slightly rustic finish. Projected maturity: 2002-2006.
This wine appeared a little strange to me when taken in the context of the vintage. In general, the vintage offers bright fruit, whereas at Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret, it was less vibrant, fatter perhaps, and ever-so-slightly pasty.
