The 2005 Etna Bianco Superiore Pietramarina (Carricante) flows with a rich, textured expression of white peaches, mint and flowers. The fruit shows lovely depth and an attractive roundness that carries through to the finish. The Pietramarina has a track record of developing beautifully in the bottle, and I expect that will be the case here as well. This remains one of the most distinctive, subtle and elegant whites being made in Italy. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2017.
Lamoremio that is already a touch forward and probably not built for the long haul. Still, it should drink beautifully for at least a few years. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2016. Benanti is a reference-point producer for beautiful wines from the Etna and Pachino, two of Sicily’s most privileged spots. It’s pretty hard to go wrong with any of these new releases.
