This offering is well-balanced, with nicely integrated acidity, alcohol, and tannin. The 1997 Barolo is gigantic. It displays tell-tale aromas of roasted herbs, jammy cherries and blackberries, spice, and tar. Thick and viscous, with outstanding ripeness, the vintage's low acid, fleshy/accessible personality, and a heady, high alcohol finish, it will become more civilized as it ages. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2016.
