The 2001 Assisi Rosso, was aged in used barrels from the Villa Fidelia. A blend of equal parts Sangiovese and Merlot, it is a seductive, delicious, hedonistic Italian red with gobs of sweet black cherry and currant fruit presented in a forward, plump, lush, succulent style. It spent only six months in wood, thus the fruit dominates this medium to full-bodied, sumptuously fruit driven effort. As the wine sits in the glass, notes of espresso and cola join the sweet black cherry and berry fruit aromas and flavors. Drink it over the next 1-2 years. A real turn-on!
