Composed of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, the 2009 Locum Cabernet Merlot has a deep garnet-purple color and notes of ripe black currant, crushed blackberries, pencil lead, mace and a touch of bay leaf. The medium bodied palate is well balanced with medium-high acid, a medium level of finely grained tannins and just enough fruit, finishing long and plumy. Drinking nicely now, it should keep to 2016. Bob Cartwright, chief winemaker for many years at Leeuwin Estate, moved over to this small, quality driven estate around 5 years ago. These wines bear the hallmarks of his undeniable talent for getting the land to speak through the wines. All the wines are made from single vineyard estate vines planted in 1997. This is a property to watch.Thompson Estate does not currently have a USA importer.
