The 2012 Barolo Cannubi Poderi in Cannubi opens to a dark, meaty personality. This wine shows some of the heat of the vintage with black fruit aromas followed by spice, tar, licorice and bacon fat. The wine is generous and rich with an accessible, near- to medium-term approach. Some 9,000 bottles were made.

Tenuta Carretta offers a streamlined and accessible interpretation of Barolo's celebrated single vineyard. The 2011 Barolo Cannubi Poderi in Cannubi offers the soft and delicate lines of the warm vintage with lots of dark fruit, spice, tar and tobacco thrown in. At its core this is an easy drinking expression with integrated and silky tannins that should allow for near and medium-term drinking. Only 9,000 bottles were produced.

The 1999 Barolo Cannubi, a deep garnet, shows excellent kirsch fruit, spice, florals, and resin on the nose. It is rich and focused on the palate, well concentrated and with much depth, unusually powerful for a wine of this vineyard but with much ripe fruit, supple tannins, and a sweet tar and chocolate finish. A powerful, old style Barolo, Carretta's 1998 Vigneta Cannubi offers up scents of new saddle leather, underbrush, earth, truffles, vitamins, black cherry fruit, rose petals, and tar. Abundant tannin, serious concentration, high extract, and a structured, formidable personality suggest an atypical style in 1998, but one that will repay cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2020.
