The 2020 Syrah Originals Estate comes from vines planted in 1992-1993. Medium ruby, it has a core of blackberry and blueberry with accents of green olive, violet and warm chocolate. The full-bodied palate is concentrated and floral with grainy tannins, rounded acidity and a long, perfumed finish. 520 cases produced.

The 2019 Syrah Originals Estate is scented of red and black currants with touches of cast iron, smoked meat, citrus peel and dried flowers. The palate is chalky, fresh and easy to drink, with iron and game meat accents on the long finish.

The 2018 Syrah Originals Estate has a medium ruby-purple color and classic scents of tar, licorice and violet with a core of cassis and wafts of mint chocolate. The palate is medium-bodied with very pretty, floral-laced fruits, finely grainy and super fresh with a long, lifted finish. What a gorgeous, elegant expression this vintage! 475 cases produced.

I tasted the 2017 Syrah Originals Estate as a barrel sample shortly before it was due to be bottled. Medium to deep ruby-purple, it has a singular nose of licorice, peppercorn, cocoa powder, red and black currants and cherries, plus sparks of fresh raspberries, blueberries and a meaty core. The palate is medium to full-bodied, offering great layers supported by ripe, pleasantly chewy tannins and integrated freshness and finishing very long. 550 cases are expected to be made.

The 2016 Syrah Originals Estate is still very primary despite its eminent bottling, dominated on the nose by a lavish display of dark, plummy fruit. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered and nicely concentrated with fine, ripe structuring tannins. While I find it hard to read, it's very promising.
