This 2019 Jimmy Section Shiraz is an odd wine, in that it is midnight black in the glass and the palate is very tannic and spicy. If I were put on the spot, I would insist it was Saperavi, or at the very least Shiraz/Saperavi. Saperavi assists the tannins and acid (and fruit profile), making more sense in the glass. However... all the reading suggests it is indeed 100% Syrah, a densely colored one at that. In the mouth, there is star anise, licorice, blackberry jam and some more licorice through the finish. It's not as long as one might hope in the flavor draw across the palate, but it does deliver a sonic boom of flavor on the front of the palate. Energy plus.
