Aged in French oak casks for four long years, the Mocali 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva (with only 3,000 bottles produced) is distinguished by a unique bouquet. There is a strong menthol note with medicinal herb that I did not find elsewhere. There is no primary fruit, but evolved aromas of forest floor, dry wood, cola and button mushroom slowly work their way to the top. I feel that the drinking window here is very short.

Here is a darkly saturated and rich expression from one of the most memorable vintages of the past 10 years. The Mocali 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a layered and generous expression with dark cherry, blackberry preserves, licorice and pressed blue flowers. The wine completes its malolactic fermentation in oak and ages in botte for a long 48 months. The mouthfeel is soft and rich. Only 3,000 bottles were made.
